Editorial photography? What's that? I'm glad you asked, because that is what editorial photography is all about — asking questions. Who is this person? Where is this person? And what does this person do? If a portrait tells a person's story, or gets the viewer interested enough to want to read it, that's what I call editorial photography. Much of my editorial photography could also be thought of as environmental portraiture, because it incorporates the person into his or her workplace, or home, or wherever is relevant.
When shooting an editorial portrait, my aim is not necessarily for the person to look attractive (as it often is when shooting other breeds of portrait). More important is for the person to look interesting. Attractiveness does draw interest, however, and so there is a place for it in editorial photography.
