THE CAIRNGORMS — CALEDONIAN TREESCAPES

Gorm Shackelford is working on a landscape photography project in the Cairngorm mountains of Scotland. In 2003, the Cairngorms became the newest and largest National Park in the UK. It is home to the last tracts of the ancient pine woodland that once dominated the Highlands. Arcane and often unpronounceable place names, and the language of its landforms, have come down to us through the ages — we read about a landscape of "corries," "tors," "glens," and "burns." In the photographs that come out of this project, Gorm hopes to depict the Cairngorms as beautifully as these terms describe it.
